Steven Universe is in no short supply of episodes or memorable quotes expanding over its five seasons. And while there are many "filler" episodes that helped us bide our time before the series finale, the season four finale "I Am My Mom" kicked things into high gear as Steven tries to save his friends and pay the consequences for the far-reaching actions of his mother, Rose Quartz.

Two Homeworld Gems are in Beach City looking for "My Dad" and despite being about 12 minutes, the episode is brimming with humor, tension, heartbreak, snarky (and silent) adversaries, and memorable quotes galore.

10 "Maybe... Because My Friends Are The Best!"

Steven is always looking on the bright side of things, even when his friends have mysteriously gone missing. What makes this such a great quote is the reaction from the Crystal Gems when Steven gives his hypothesis as to why it's his friends who are disappearing.

While there's no doubt that Sadie and Connie are great, it makes sense for Garnet to be wary of Jamie the Mailman and his crush on her or for any of them to question Onion's role as Steven's friend.

9 "Steven Save Yourself... After You've Saved Us!"

It's no surprise that some of the best quotes from this episode come from Jamie the Mailman as he is a mailman in occupation only and an actor at heart.

When it's revealed that Steven's friends are being abducted by Aquamarine and a Topaz fusion (with his friends being stuck in Topaz's fused body), Steven and the Crystal Gems are taken aback, prompting Jamie to take a wack at brave gallantry, while also making clear that the Gems need to save him and the others.

Aquamarine is the brainy antagonist of the episode, while Topaz-Squared is the muscle, and when they demand to know where "My Dad" is, Steven exasperates that he doesn't know what they're talking about.

Aquamarine brings the receipts and pulls out a report from way early in the series when we were first introduced to the now-reformed Peridot. In the previous episode, the Homeworld antagonists were searching for "My Dad" which confused the Gems. We now know exactly why they've been searching for these "human variations."

7 "Aquamarine Doesn't Have A Dad. She's Looking For Someone Named 'My Dad.' This Is All My Fault."

Steven Universe realizes what his carelessness has done

It finally dawns on Steven what's been happening and he is devastated because the report from Peridot is word-for-word what he said to her way back in the episode "Marble Madness."

While Steven was just making conversation about the people who live in and around Beach City, little did he know that Homeworld would believe that the different names were indicative of types of humans and would then find these variants for Yellow Diamond's Human Zoo. Poor Steven, you couldn't have known this would happen!

6 "No Garnet! I've Moved On, I Swear!"

The Crystal Gems jump into action, with their leader Garnet being the first to attack Topaz. However, since the humans are literally sticking out of Topaz's body, she shifts so that Jamie the Mailman is in the way of Garnet's gauntlet punch, to which Jamie panics and does everything in his power to stop her fist.

Jamie truly has the best quotes of the episode because this one is so self-centered and hilarious since it shows that Jamie thinks Garnet is punching out of resentment.

5 "Our Orders Are To Bring Back These Six Humans. I'm Just Not Sure. Did They Specify... Alive?"

Steven Universedoes a great job at balancing whimsical laughs with real-world horror and terror and this quote makes the episode take a real turn. Aquamarine up until this point had been an arrogant and annoying enemy to the Crystal Gems but here we see that she is not messing around.

Aquamarine prefaces the above quote with a condescending tone towards the Gems and Topaz about having perfect memory and postulating on the details of their mission and it makes the quote even more sinister.

4 "I Am My Dad"

When it becomes apparent to Steven that the Crystal Gems can't fight the Homeworld Gems, he decides to use deception to save his friends.

He tricks Aquamarine into thinking that he in fact is the "My Dad" they are looking for in hopes that Topaz would absorb his body so that he can use his bubble power to un-fuse the two Topazes. Unfortunately, Steven's plan hits a snag when it looks like the Topaz fusion's body may be too thick for him to internally de-stabilize.

3 "The Threat Of Us Perishing In This Quagmire Of Yellow Feels Very Real; A Real Encompassing Kind Of Real. A Neon Death Trap, Which Has Imprisoned Us So Tightly, Like A Winter Coat That's Too Big In The Sleeves."

Damn Jamie, back at it again with the golden quotes, even when they're absolute nonsense. Due to Steven's bubble plan taking a while to execute, Aquamarine and Topaz already have them all on the ship and are setting a course for Homeworld. In a panic, Jamie begins to wax poetically about their predicament, with ever-increasing melodrama and gibberish.

When he says "Quagmire of Yellow" and "Neon Death Trap" he's of course talking about the Topaz fusion's colors. Jamie just wants to recite something Shakespeare-esque, okay?

2 "I'm Not My Dad... I'm My Mom. I'm Rose Quartz!"

There's a lot more to the quote but the tail-end of it gets the message across. After Steven's bubbling works and Alexandrite stops the ship from leaving the atmosphere, it looks like everyone will make their escape. Well, they would if it weren't for Aquamarine and her tractor-beam wand.

In a last-ditch effort, Steven makes the ultimate sacrifice and offers himself up to Aquamarine, telling her that he was the one who shattered Pink Diamond and that the Diamonds will want him more than some humans.

Amethyst and the Gems beg Steven Universe not to leave

Helpless to Steven's decision, all of his friends and the Crystal Gems look up from below in horror. Garnet tries to order Steven down, Pearl pleads for him to come back and Amethyst gives one of the best quotes as the episode comes to a close.

Despite the situation being as dire as it is, Amethyst still tries to act tough and threatens Steven, but it's her break in the second half of the sentence that shows just how desperate and scared Amethyst is.
